When you think of meats you usually think about a cheeseburger or a steak, but did you know that dry beans, peas, nuts, and seeds are also considered part of the meat food group?  In fact they are some of the most important parts of the food group.  This is because they contain many vitamins such as protein, B vitamins (niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, and B6), vitamin E, iron, zinc, and magnesium.  The proteins act as building blocks for bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, blood, enzymes, hormones, and vitamins.  Also proteins are one of the three things that provide calories.  B vitamins provide a variety of functions.   Such as they help the body release energy, play a vital role in the nervous system, aid the information of red blood cells, and help build tissues.  Vitamin E is an antioxidant and it helps protect vitamin A, and essential fatty acids.  Iron carries oxygen in the blood.  Magnesium helps build bones and it releases energy from your muscles.  Finally, Zinc helps your immune system function properly.  Overall dry beans, peas, nuts, and seeds are essential parts of the meat food group.

For Halloween I got a big box of SweeTarts.  In just one box there are 11 servings and each serving is 16 pieces.  In one serving there are 13 grams of carbohydrates (4%) and 13 grams of sugar.  As you know after everyone goes trick or treating on Halloween they go home and eat all of their candy.  So when I got home from trick or treating I ate at least half of the box and within the next week the rest of the box was gone.   Since I ate at least half of the bag in one night that means that, that night I ate about 24% of how much carbohydrates I should be eating along with eating a whole bunch of different candies.  Also if you look at the ingredients on the box there is almost every different kind of artificial colors.  Artificial colors are horrible for you and
